The Derby Police Department is led by Chief Gerald D. Narowski, former Deputy Chief under former Chief Eugene Mascolo, who retired on October 12, 2010. The Patrol Division is the heart of the Department, as it provides the primary police functions. It is also the largest unit in the Department. This Division is commanded by a lieutenant and has five sergeants, 19 patrol officers and 1 canine officer assigned to it. The Records Division of the Derby Police Department is primarily responsible for the storing and maintenance of all police reports, arrest records, and the compilation of statistical data as reported to state and federal agencies. The Detective Division is commanded by a lieutenant and is staffed with a sergeant and three full-time detectives, one of which is assigned to the youth division. The Derby School Resource Officer (SRO) is also assigned to the Detective division. The Detective Division is staffed during the hours of 8 am to 4 pm, Monday through Friday. Specific detectives are on-call on a 24-hour basis.
